How to make your own butter cream frosting

Norpro 8 Piece Cake Decorating SetThis is seriously easy and DELICIOUS!  Tastes just like the bakery frosting they use on their sheet cakes.  I would highly recommend using this recipe to make your own wedding cake and investing a little cash into some cake decorating tools.  You don't need anything too fancy, but making your own cake will save you a lot of money.

How to make delicious butter-cream frosting
This butter-cream frosting recipe is similar to a recipe I found on the back of a bag of sugar but after making several batches of this frosting, I have made some improvements.  First of all you’ll absolutely need a mixer, this frosting is thick and creamy and tastes just like the stuff at the bakery instead of those small containers you can buy in the cake mix aisle.  This stuff is very delicious and rich, perfect for decorating a wedding cake!

Ingredients:
(Makes enough frosting for one large sheet cake)
2 lbs. Powdered Sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup water (room temperature)
2 ½ teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup of butter (must be actual butter, no margarine, works best of butter is room temperature)
Food coloring (if necessary)

Put all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric beater or mixer (will be too thick for a spoon and won’t mix evenly).  Beat until smooth and creamy, this can take awhile.  If the frosting is too thick and stiff to stir properly, try adding a few drops of water.  Just a few drops at a time though, this frosting will not hold up if it’s too thin.
Cover your bowl and use as soon as cake is ready.  After the cake is frosted, keep cake in the refrigerator so the frosting will keep its design.  Take out an hour before serving for frosting and cake to thaw completely.  Remember to make another batch if you want to decorate with more than one color of frosting.

Wilton 601-5580 1/2-Ounce Certified-Kosher Icing Colors, Set of 12Want something besides white?  Of course you can mix in some food coloring, but what about color swirls?  For that, you'll need a color paste- regular food coloring liquid won't work- and line your frosting bag with stripes.  Four long vertical stripes along the inside of the bag with your colors and boom, you look like the Cake Boss.  Click on the pictures for more detail.

Enjoy!

Appetizer idea

Great ideas are out there!  You're not the first person itching to save money on a special occasion so you can benefit from those who have suffered (I mean celebrated) before you.  Check out this great appetizer idea for a wedding reception.  Seems fairly easy to put together a couple of nights before the big day.  Remember, if you're sticking to that small guest list, doing a few of these things won't be too overwhelming and you'll save BIG bucks.

This particular recipe I priced out and for 200 of these mini dessert appetizers, it would cost about $18.  Instead of the wood sticks, I used pretzel sticks which are edible and less likely to be used as a weapon (you never know how these family get-togethers are going to go.)   A cheaper way still would be to substitute the peanut butter truffle and do marshmallows dipped in caramel, then dipped in chocolate, and finally the bottoms rolled in pretzels or crushed peanuts.  Keep an eye out for grocery store sales and coupons then make your decision.  Either way, a pretty easy and fancy treat for your wedding.

Project Re-Style #5

It is hard to believe it is week number 5, in the Project Re-Style challenge. I am having so much fun taking my old things and making them new again. How can you not like something for free? All the details at the end of the Post.
Just click on the picture.

This week  I had my eye on a different project, but when I found that black belt for my Black Leather Belt  Bracelets.  I came across a White Denim Jacket, (maybe 8 or 9 years old), that I thought this would look great restyled in to  something for Spring.  I really love the way this turned out. The flowers are all different pins I made.  I just had to try to make some of the lovely flowers that are out there.  The best thing about this is  if you want to change up the look you can just take the flowers off.  Easy!   I am still debating if I should take off the bottom of the jacket and make it a cropped Denim Jacket, although the longer style looks good with my body type. We will just have to sit with this for a couple of days and see.

Tutorial

Just carefully cut off the sleeves. No sewing required.

Wow! Ten minutes for a new Jacket,

Black Leather Belt Bracelets

I was looking in my sons closet for some old shirts and  my eyes got really big when I found a Black Braided belt G had when he was about 8, it kind of made me  feel  a little emotional.:(   Well, I decided to create a couple of bracelets out of them.  Now It has sentimental value on top of Re-Style value.:)
These are made just like the
Brown Leather Cuff Bracelets,
the  toutorial HERE.

I was so needing a black bracelet too.

I took my hot glue gun and glued a little Black Satin  ribbon to the ends of the middle bracelet and pink velvet ribbon on the top bracelet, so the braid would not come apart.
I weaved some pink velvet ribbon though the one bracelet so I could tie it.

Happy Saturday Night Everyone!!

Crazy Daisy: Butterfly Wreath

Ok, we're big on saving money on this blog. I mean, there are people who are cheap out there but only I dream of a wedding that costs $500. Now that is cheap.

That doesn't mean your wedding or reception has to be boring or lack glamor. It just means you have to be resourceful! This is a gorgeous wreath made out of- you'll never guess- brown paper lunch bags. No kidding!

So put in your favorite movie, grab a snack, gather your supplies, and print out the instructions on the link below. I've seen people do using the brown paper bags and then spray painting the final product with white spray paint.  This could be so cute as a wreath or, if placed on a table with candles in the center, a centerpiece!

Kate from See Kate Blog, Shared 15 things about herself and then tagged me to do the same. Then I get to tag 5 other people.  Sounds like fun to me.  I love to learn new things  about people.
So here it goes.

1.  I play FPS ( first person shooters) on the computer with   my husband and their clan.(Yes I am the only girl in their clan.)  For those of you who don't know what that is, it is kind of like Blogging, except with Boys playing Call of Duty Black Ops and other games where you shoot, knife or toss grenades., and they don't share their feelings . LOL
2.  I love Black fingernail polish, but I am not  into grunge.
3.  I love animals.
4.  I love my girlfriends,  but my best friends have always been guys.
5.  I love to get up early and drink a cup of coffee before anyone else gets up.
6.  Clothes have always made me happy as long as  I can remember.
7.  I love to bargain shop.
8.  I can't type that well.
9.  I can cut hair.
10. I have never done any kind of illegal  drug.
11. My Chemical Romance is my favorite band of today.
12  But no one can sing like Frank Sinatra, and hearing him makes my spine tingle.
13.  I Cry at sad movies, I even cry when they are not that sad.
14. I love to watch old Black and White movies with my Husband and our children.
15. I come from a pretty big Family. 2 girls and 2 boys and My parents are still married, so are all my bothers and sisters.

Well there I am in black and white.

How to Get Victoria's Secret Hair: Hair Care & Styling Tips | eHow.com

14" Silky Straight 100% Human Hair Clip On In Extensions 8 Piece Set Color 2 Darkest BrownPlan on wearing your hair down for your wedding? I wore my hair down instead of the traditional up-do and I got a lot of compliments on it, although really, what are people going to do? Tell me I look weird on my wedding day? Nevertheless, I think wearing your hair down can be just as pretty as wearing it up. The trick to saving the most amount of money possible is doing your hair yourself or letting a trusted friend take on the responsibility. Here's an interesting link I found for getting "Victoria's Secret" hair.

Also consider doing an extension.  Professionally done, these can be very pricey, but there are some quality clip-on versions out there to try that are much more affordable.  Click the picture to get an idea.
