Awesometastic Marriage Proposal: Kaity and Bobby

Kaity and Bobby were some of our awesometastic'est clients, and they have a seriously cute proposal story to share to go along with our theme of awesometastic marriage proposals.

Aren't they the cutest!

The story as told by Kaity:

Bobby and I were going up to Gainesville for the Orange and Blue debut last weekend. The morning of the game is the annual Gator Yard Sale - aka where they sell off game-used jerseys (Bobby's other love in his life). For weeks, Bobby told me how stressed he was about the sale and how he was nervous about not getting good jerseys, etc. I told him to be calm and thankful for anything he got!

So, Friday night on the drive up he tells me that we have to go to campus. Kendall (our friend and future bridesmaid!) had texted him that the sale tent had moved and we needed to scope it out. We were planning to be in line at 6am (for the 9am sale). I told him he was crazy and to not worry about it. He persisted and decided we had to go to campus to check.

There we are at 9 o'clock at night cruising campus at 20 mph. He pulls into the parking lot behind Gator Dining. "Why don't you park at the O'Dome. It's closer." "No. It's closed." "It's not closed! Go check." "Yeah, it is." "No, it's not."

Eventually I caved and we parked at Gator D and started walking up to the corner of North-South (Gale Lemerand for you babies) and Stadium Road. Before I know it, he's stopping me at the corner - in front of the Bull Gator...and saying some lovely things I will keep to myself and asking me to marry him. After "Are you serious?!!?" I said "Yes" and that leads me to the most beautiful ring I have ever seen...

Seating Schmeating!

Soooo, do you do this?

Or this?

Why? What's the difference? Does it matter?

First you have to ask yourself a series of questions, and the answers will help you determine which to do, if at all.

  • Are you serving a plated meal with various selections for your guests to choose from?

    • If so, you might steer clear of the seating chart, because you'll need to distinqish their selections some how to the servers or catering staff.

  • Do you have limited seating, or the exact number of tables you'll need for your guests?

    • If so, you'll need to consider some kind of table chart or seating cards, because you're guests will usually leave a seat or two open at their tables and that can't happen if you are limited.

  •  Are you only reserving a few tables for your guests?

    • For instance, it's open seating, but you want to make sure your parents and grandparents sit closest to you - then you'll need to have a few reserved signs at those tables in advance.

These are by all means NOT all of the reasons, but it should give you some help while you are determing where and how you'll seat your guests.

Proposal Packages!

Recently a client asked me to help him with an amazing proposal, in Las Vegas - and as you know, I am in love with Las Vegas. And Greg wanted to do this RIGHT! Money was no object, he wanted to treat her to the most incredibly indulgent meal, and just a night she would not soon forget. Tina went on this vacation under the guise that this was a completely relaxing indulgent vacation.

He gave me the particulars, {basically wanted to propose the first night and play the rest of the trip}and let me go to work!! Basically all I did was present him with a timeline... and he was set!

Here's what went down!

Arrive in Las Vegas at 2PM, check into your Suite at The Palazzo.

3 o’clock – Massages In-Suite (Jealous yet!)

5 o’clock – Head to Bellagio for drinks at The Fontana Bar, outside on veranda overlooking the Fountain

Half Past 6 – Reservations at Picasso (this is my favorite part!!!)

The menu was preset- he picked all of her favorites, each was paired with a special wine

Maine Lobster Salad

with Apple-Champagne Vinaigrette

2005 Leeuwin Estate, Art Series, Riesling, Margaret River, Australia

Pan Seared Sea Scallops

with Potato Mousseline, Crispy Leeks and Jus de Veau

2005 Domaines Schlumberger, Les Princes Abbés, Pinot Gris, Alsace, France

Sautéed "A" Steak of Foie Gras

with Olsen Cherries, Crushed Almonds and Baltos Cinnamon Reduction

2003 The Royal Tokaji Wine Company, Tokaji Aszú, 5 Puttonyos, Mád, Hungary

Roasted Aged Lamb Chop

with Rosemary Potatoes and Au Jus

1999 Bodegas Mauro, Terreus, Pago de Cueva Baja, Vino de la Tierra Castilla Y León, Spain

Then her favorite dessert a Strawberry Neapolitan.

Now he didn’t ask her during the meal, or put a fancy “question” on the dessert…

Put at the end of the meal, the server placed the ring on the Dessert Tray filled with all sorts of delicate truffles that he brings out right before the check… Greg was cool as a cucumber this whole time, and really wasn’t worried about anything, because he knew that Picasso had it under-control.

Tina later told me that if she thought Greg would propose she thought he would had done it already, not wait until the end, end, end of the meal, so she was totally shocked, and everyone in the restaurant applauded!

Since I know from experience (it's a terrible side effect of this job) that the average meal at Picasso can last 3+ hours… they wouldn’t be done with dinner until after 9PM, knowing they’d be tired from the 3 hour time change… assumed they’d head back to the hotel. I pulled some strings and had their names on the VIP list for Tao at Venetian, in case they weren’t, uh, celebrating…

I really enjoyed planning their proposal! I know it was a relief to Greg too – especially since he called and texted me right after it happened to tell me everything was perfect!

Thank you Greg and Tina for allowing me to be apart of your fantastic proposal, and I am so excited about your wedding!!!
